Nomalanga Shozi and DJ Sabby To Host South African Music Awards
So much drama, so much ups and downs and the 29th South African Music Awards (SAMAs) are finally scheduled to take place on Saturday, 18th November 2023 at SunBet Arena; Menlyn Maine in Pretoria. The SAMAs have been facing financial difficulties with the awards having to be postponed on several occasions.
The award organisers; Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) had secured sponsorship with the Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs department in Durban; Kwa-Zulu Natal of which they later pulled the sponsorship due to public backlash on the government department wanting to spend R28 million on this event. RiSA was left with no choice but to scrape for a new event sponsor. At the last minute RiSA struck a deal with music concert organisers Africa Fest now making it possible for the underwhelming SAMAs to continue as scheduled but with a changed venue.
SAMAs has since announced this year’s main hosts of the event being Nomalanga Shozi and DJ Sabby. Very recently Nomalanga Shozi (29) was booked to host the launch of the Bonang Matheba x Steve Madden SA collection. We’ve learned that Bonang Matheba did not want anything to do with Nomalanga Shozi and the event organisers had no choice but to have Nomalanga Shozi replaced by Zanele Potelwa.
Nomalanga Shozi is known as an actress who has appeared on several shows including Rhythm City and MTV Shuga Alone Together. Meanwhile her co-host DJ Sabby is known for booking that one job at Metro FM. He says he is a musician but nobody knows his music. I’m just wondering how did he even book this job. With the budget being tight at SAMAs it is not surprising that they hired individuals they could afford to pay the least amount of money.
We’ve also learned that Hope Mbhele and Thuthuka Mthembu will host the red carpet of this event. Hope Mbhele recently debuted as an actress on Shaka Ilembe meanwhile Thuthuka Mthembu is also an actress and we’ve seen her on Uzalo. Even though Zanele Potelwa’s fashion is very hlebi but she would’ve done a better job than these two combined. One would also understand why she wouldn’t have booked this job. It would’ve been because of the Bonang Matheba – Nomalanga Shozi drama that saw Nomalanga being snubbed for a job that was later booked by Zanele Potelwa.
